This first stage focuses on gathering first hand information from carers, professionals, and family members to fully understand the child’s experiences. From here an understanding of the child’s internal working model begins to be built. (How the child sees themselves and the world around them) Alongside in person interviews, factual evidence is gathered from social care records, and relevant documents. Memorabilia, photographs and personal items of relevance to the child are also collected for use in the sessions.
At Safe Harbour Stories, this stage is about creating a strong, secure harbour - careful preparation ensures that the child will be met with safety, honesty, and understanding.
